The Waymark

Occupying the 1927 Chattanooga Savings Bank & Trust building in downtown Chattanooga, TN, The Waymak is another example of Dutch East’s commitment to finding opportunities for thoughtful design within the constraints of a historic building. The studio provided naming, branding and interior design for the hotel and its two F+B venues. The hotel offers a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere that welcomes both locals and travelers. A contextual response was created by the juxtaposition of two themes: One, the grandeur and longevity of this former bank building, and two, the spirit of adventure intrinsic to the identity of Chattanooga, thanks to the region’s natural beauty and accessibility for outdoor adventure.

By answering this call within the lobby with a visually quiet, neutral envelope, teh studio created some breathing room for the historic details, and for an energetic and colorful furnishing style to welcome guests with a lighthearted and elevated touch. The guest room design is based on the concept of Eclectic Verdant, paying tribute to Chattanooga’s expansive greenery. The rooms feature a sharp bold green headboard and a custom wool handwoven area rug in an abstract pattern of state flower, the Iris. Casegoods provide a counterbalance with mid-century profiles and detailing, curating a well appointed room.
